Look at this guy! For once, a hurricane going the wrong way.

Giants in the West Country!!

PS: I am only amused by this because Omar is headed for Unpleasant Waters for a hurricane and will die out before he ever reaches anyone. Probably. HURRICANES IS SRS BIZNESS.

Am not dead, contrary to recent evidence. I have been extremely busy living in the dark after a hurricane, re-planning my poor wedding in the dark, GETTING MARRIED IN THE NOT-DARK because the power, oh glorious power, returned the day before the ceremony, honeymooning, and generally trying to get used to this wifely business. I am so glad my husband can cook because I don't like it. I vastly prefer baking and in fact made huge and amazing chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese frosting last week. They were rich and artery-clogging goodness of the highest order.

I frequently put things in the wash and then forget their very existence. One poor towel used to dry my dog got left in for three days before I finally remembered it. But I persevere in the face of household failure! One day I may even (gasp) tidy my bedroom.

Someone recommend some books for me to read. I finished A Princess of Roumania which was very intriguing but suffered from quite obviously being the first act of a series. In a strange choice on the publisher's part, the book in no way mentions the series; I learned this online before I bought it. I am on the hunt for the next book, The Tourmaline. Someone had the audacity to buy it at Barnes & Noble, and of course books like that don't get stocked in great numbers. Alas.

Sleeeeeeeeep. I can't believe I am even bothering to post, but the population of my house has more than doubled today, and no one else seems inclined to hit the sack just yet.

My parents are here, and my sister, and since she doesn't have a car, Paul and I picked her up, a drive of nearly two and a half hours, which is doable. Not so doable, however, is then driving straight to Houston, another three and a half hours in the opposite direction, because Paul's sister flew in today and got seriously ill on the plane. Gastroenteritis, which is nasty stuff. She's flying to Illinois in the morning, but she spent all afternoon in the ER. We shuttled her around to get her baggage (which they refused to put on the ambulance, wtf), her prescription, and to her hotel, and now we're home. My parents came over for the weekend as well to do wedding stuff. I can already feel my early bird mother itching to clean or plan or whatever three hours before I care to wake up on a Saturday. Woo.

I didn't get to watch much of the DNC because of various ~drama~, but I did catch Palin's speech tonight. Whatever you think of her, it is hard to deny she is a good public speaker. I also thought her top was adorable, which made me feel like a failure as a Strong Independent Woman because fashion is just idiocy compared to srs politics, right?

Rambles )

ETA: I evacuated for Gustav! And then he completely missed my town. It hardly even rained. But I had fun getting out of town for a few days and hanging with my relatives. They're hilarious semi-hippies.

Well. McCain is, at least, full of surprises, and Sarah Palin is cute as a button. Not that that means anything! But, you know, she looks nice. Hahaha I love this election sometimes. Nobody knows what is going to happen next! Obama picks an old guy who seems to clash with his image but has lots of experience, McCain picks a woman (!) who is apparently as much of a GOP non-conformist as he is (or was, maybe) but doesn't have much experience. Interesting stuff, to say the least.

Saturday I scraped all the skin off the top of my heel on my left foot- you know the spot just below where your foot meets your leg, that spot that has to bend and stretch during walking? Yeah, giant icky scab. Yesterday I ran my pinky toe on my right foot straight into a box at high (I say high- brisk walk) speed. My nurse friend had a look and said it might be broken, but there's nothing to be done about it except take some pain killer and maybe tape it if necessary. :( Owwww.

Am I the only person in the world who sort of hates Ryan? I can't even remember if anyone on my flist likes The Office (if you don't watch, DO IT NOW. There are 500 places online to watch it), but I NEED. TO KNOW. AM I ALONE? He displays such dickery, and he has stupid facial hair. Don't get me wrong- I appreciate him as a character. You need guys like him around. Unfortunately not everyone is hilariously quirky but mostly harmless. I STILL DON'T LIKE HIM.

Splurged at the store and bought thick-cut sirloin yesterday. Have now had steak two days in a row. Mm, steak.

HEY NEW JOURNAL THING. AWESOME. I still don't have anything to say, really!

To christen it, here is a review of The Clone Wars. Spoilers. )

Watched Empire Strikes Back last night and remembered why the Original Trilogy is still the ultimate Star Wars. Especially now that the EU is all screwed.
